How to Display Windows Server / Desktop Information

Q. How to display Windows Server or Windows Desktop information ?

A. There are two method to display windows server or windows desktop information. First method is by using “systeminfo” command and second by using “winver” command. Both command require you to login to the workstation and open the MS-DOS command prompt shell window.

Method 1:

1. Login to Windows server or windows workstation.
2. Open MS-DOS command prompt :
3. Run the “systeminfo” command. Specifically, you can filter the string as below :

systeminfo | findstr OS

Press the “Enter” button to execute the command.
The information about your Windows version and Edition will be displayed.

Example 1 :
win2k12-info-1
Example 2 :
win2k12-info-2

Method 2:

1. Login to Windows server or windows workstation.
2. Open MS-DOS command prompt :
3. Run the “winver” command.

winver

Press the “Enter” button to execute the command.

The information about your Windows version and Edition will be displayed.
